A brand new, sunny two bedroom apartment, located just below the little town of Perledo, just two minutes drive up the hill from Varenna. Magnificent panoramic views are enjoyed from the perfect setting with stunning uninterrupted views for miles and miles. This area of the lake is referred to as the Golden Triangle (the area of water stretching between the famous towns of Bellagio, Menaggio & Varenna). These three towns, plus the fourth town of Cadenabbia, are the only towns that support car ferries that criss-cross the lake between these destinations.
The apartment offers all the comforts you are looking for with two bedrooms (a master bedroom and 2nd bedroom with sofa bed) and a further double sofa bed in the lounge. There is elegantly styled, open plan, fully equipped kitchen and living area with flat screen TV with DVD player. From the lounge & balcony, you can enjoy dining al fresco, sunbathe or simple admire the breathtaking views & the beautiful evening sunsets.
There is a beautiful pebble beach a 15 min. drive away in Lierna and a sandy Lido in Varenna itself and also a larger beach in Bellano.
Varenna may be the most picturesque town on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. Just above it is the ancient castle where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Two famed villas to visit here are Villa Cipressi, with terraced gardens cascading right down to the shores, and Villa Monastero, a true showcase.
Varenna is home to Italys shortest river, the Fiumelatte. Only 250 meters long, it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rock face and crashes into the lake from the end of March to the end of October each year. And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his Codice Atlantico notebook.
Skiing in the area is bountiful with resorts such as Madesimo 1.15hrs to the north and the local ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 mins away. The International jet-set resort of St. Moritz is just 1.5hrs by car. |
